RICHMOND, 05/18/23 — Today, with early voting underway in the 2023 primary season, Family Friendly Virginia awarded its “Family Friendly Seal of Approval” to candidates in legislative races across Virginia for their support of critical family-friendly workplace policies.
Candidates who are being awarded the “Family Friendly Seal of Approval” are certified by Family Friendly Virginia to be champions of family friendly economic policy, notably:
- Paid family and medical leave;
- Quality child care;
- Earned sick days; and
- Affordable long-term care.
“The Family Friendly Seal of Approval recognizes candidates who are committed to lifting up working families,” said Kristina Hagen, director of Family Friendly Virginia. “For too long, families have had to choose between earning a paycheck and being there for a loved one in their time of need, tending to their own medical emergencies, or welcoming a new child. Virginia’s small businesses are at a competitive disadvantage with larger employers when it comes to attracting and retaining talent because they cannot begin to match the benefits. Virginia’s families, Virginia’s small businesses, and Virginia’s economy will be stronger with these candidates in office.”
The Family Friendly Seal of Approval is not an endorsement; rather, it is a marker that a candidate stands with working families. As such, more than one candidate in a race can receive it. Family Friendly Virginia will not make endorsements in primary races. Only candidates who have received the Family Friendly Seal of Approval will be considered for future general election endorsements.
